Existing Programmatic Interdisciplinary Major Concentrations

There are currently five exciting new learning and B.A. earning programmatic interdisciplinary major concentrations. All are housed in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS). These IDS Major Concentrations are listed and briefly described below. Please investigate them closely if you think that you may be interested in one of these forefront career pathways. Note that these major areas of concentration will be recognized on your student transcript and diploma as they are named below.

  • B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies: Bioethics
  • B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies: Community Development
  • B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies: International Affairs
  • B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies: International Humanities; Ancient and Modern
  • B.A. or B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies: Environmental Studies
  • Minor in Interdisciplinary Studies: Women’s, Gender, and Sexualities Studies

 

 

Other major concentrations are currently under development such as: Religious Studies, Neurosciences, Computational Sciences).

The Interdisciplinary Studies Major at Howard University may be pursued in two distinct ways:

an established Interdisciplinary Major (MC) Concentration; or

an Individualized Interdisciplinary Concentration (IIC).

How to Apply

To Apply for a Programmatic IDS Major Concentration

  • To apply, contact the Coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) Major Concentration Program you seek to join, or the IDS Department’s Administrative Assistant or Chair. Please contact us to transfer directly to the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies at the Howard University College of Arts and Sciences or at the Howard University Office of Undergraduate Studies in Carnegie Hall.

 

To Apply for an Individualized IDS Major Concentration

  • To apply, contact the Administrative Assistant of the Interdisciplinary Studies Department (IDS) to determine whether the IIC is available currently, and if so, for guidance on gathering your committee and on preparing your proposed unique established Interdisciplinary Major Concentration (MC). You may download and study the MC Rubric-Guideline for preparing your application. Before beginning your application, please contact the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies for detailed guidance.  Please apply for admission directly to the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies at the Howard University College of Arts and Sciences.
